This Month on SFP-NOW
The latest edition of SFP-NOW, the monthly podcast brought to you by SciFiPulse , is available now. We bring you news and views about what’s hot and what’s not. For example, this year’s new awesome graphic novel, BlowBack. The writer, James Hereth and one of the artists, Kev Hopgood spoke to us, this month. If you visit James Hereth’s Blog, you can get the lowdown on the evolution of the project. It’s certainly not a comic that fans of time travel will want to miss, that’s for sure. Co-author, Rhonda Smiley, has worked on many great projects. Though she didn’t join the chat, her influence was discussed, and her ability to deliver great writing was an important aspect of the discussion. Charlie Kirchoff was the colourist, who brought his experiences and his talent to the table.
Pulp Heroes
Pulp-type fiction has a rich and interesting history. So, we thought that we’d take the opportunity to delve into it. We mentioned such iconic heroes as Flash Gordon, The Shadow, and many more. It’s clear such characters have had at least some influence on the writers, and likely the artists, too. Furthermore, the story also incorporates other elements of the past in a smart and original way. It certainly seems that the basic format of pulp-type stuff is here to stay. It’s tried and tested, and is very much something that’s still an important element within the world of comic-book writing. Basically, you can’t beat a good, old-fashioned escapist adventure story, told well.
Where to Get BlowBack
As mentioned, this story is not one you’ll want to miss out on. So, get your copy now. If you want to read it digitally, you can get it from Comixology now, or you can get a hard copy via Amazon. If you’ve got it to spare, we promise you won’t regret spending the money. That was very much the verdict of Our Review of BlowBack, which we brought you following our news piece on BlowBack’s release. We’d like to thank the team for providing us a review copy of the comic for us to enjoy. Additionally, we’d like to thank them for their time and the awesome opportunity to chat about things, including the aspects of comic-book history that influenced them.
