Today, September 26-28, 2014, Sci-Con Tampa begins in Tampa Florida, the stars are not only aligning but they are also literally arriving via shuttle and/or transporter, to what will undoubtedly become an amazing yearly tradition of fan and family friendly Science Fiction Convention.
The much anticipated Sci-Con Tampa will take place at the Grand Hyatt Tampa Bay, which will feature tons of fun such as a dealers room, game room, movie room and panels on cosplay, film making, podcasting, writing, theater acting, sci-fi trivia and more.
Sci-Con Tampa is a Fan Run convention put together by fans, for the benefit of fans who will be able to meet amazing genre guests such as Richard Hatch from the classic and re-imagined iconic Sci-fi television series Battlestar Galactica, as well as Aron Eisenberg, best known for his role as Nog on Star Trek: Deep Space 9; Lolita Fatjo, a convention circuit favorite and Script Coordinator on multiple Star Trek series and movies; and other guests, including former NASA Astronaut Story Musgrave, who performed the first shuttle spacewalk on Challenger’s first flight.
There will even be large props and models on display such as a custom built Cylon Raider (created by one of the convention organizers, Eugene Haggerty), as well as an Imperious Leader Throne, a TARDIS, a Dalek and even various R2 Droids. Sci-Con Tampa will also have a dedicated area with kid-friendly activities for young fans and padawans of all ages, as well as various panels and workshops, such as Richard Hatch, conducting a special two-hour breakout acting workshop, for which Richard is globally recognized for.
The promoters have also decided to invite Sci Fi Pulse’s own Tye Bourdony, as an artist and guest of Sci-Con Tampa as well. Tye is also the creator of the Lighter Side of Sci Fi, and has a regular self-published column in Sci Fi Magazine, while also being a reporter and contributing editor to Sci Fi Pulse.net. Tye even created a cartoon just for this convention.
As a guest, Tye will also be giving at least two panels throughout the convention weekend, the first being on his Sci-Fi satires, which he has been creating for over 15 years. Tye will talk about his creative process while also showing some of his favorite satires and discussing the work he does with Sci Fi Pulse as a reporter and contributing editor.
Likewise, Tye will also be giving a workshop on dealing with debt entitled, “Dealing with Intergalactic Debt”, in which Tye will walk people through the ins and outs of working with, settling with, defending against and being aware of those issues surrounding debt default, collection and litigation. Tye is a graduate of the Barry University School of Law and is currently the staff mediator for the Osceola County Ninth Circuit Courthouse in Kissimmee, Florida and he has regretfully been dealing with the many issues surrounding consumer debt and credit card litigation since Law School in 2008.
Sci-Con Tampa will kick off with opening ceremonies this Friday evening, followed by a VIP toast with the convention’s celebrity guests as well as a Friday night Karaoke party for all attendees. On Saturday evening, the convention will host an exciting costume contest for all adults and children dressed to impress or ready to fight evil in the form of a Super Villain or Intergalactic mad Emperor. The costume contest will also be followed by a Masquerade Ball, complete with an awesome DJ and plenty of dancing to round off the night.
