Rick and Morty has been a sci-fi sensation of a generation. What looks like a quirky cartoon on the surface is so much deeper than many first-time viewers expect. Despite having only been around for a few years, the series has already gained cult status. It now seems as though there are plans to expand the franchise further, and it was recently announced that there will be a new spinoff series focusing on some of the characters that were introduced in the main show.

Spinoff Show Announced

According to The Wrap, Adult Swim has recently announced that it will be releasing four brand new spinoff shows of some of its most popular titles. The Rick and Morty offshoot will be The Vindicators, focusing on the band of superheroes that was introduced in season three of the main show. The episode, entitled Vindicators 3: The Return of Worldender, saw Rick and Morty join up with Supernova, Million Ants, Crocubot, Alan Rails and Vance Maximus. Viewers were told that the previous two adventures with the heroic team happened off-screen.

This was a highly entertaining episode, and the characters are well worthy of revisiting for extra development. Each of the members of the Vindicators is a parody of another existing superhero, and the episode poked fun at the genre in general. This was an excellent choice for a spinoff series, as the characters exist far away from the events of the main series. However, there is always the potential for crossovers in the future.

How Else Could the Franchise Expand?

A lot of Rick and Morty fans will be hoping that this spinoff opens the door for many more. The hilarious sci-fi has been running for four seasons since it began in 2013. Throughout that time there have been a number of legendary characters that have lived long in the memory of viewers. It will also be interesting to see how the franchise expands in other ways.

Rick and Morty has spilled out into some other media already. This suggests that Warner Bros television is interested in building the brand further. One of the most notable ways to enjoy Rick and Morty, other than by watching them on TV, is to play the Rick and Morty slot game at Fruit Kings. It features a number of characters from the series, along with the instantly recognizable music. Another option would be to play the addictive mobile game, Rick and Morty: Pocket Mortys, which received a rating of 5.5/10 from IGN. This is billed as the “number one grandson fighting simulator,” and it gives players a chance to use Rick’s famous portal gun.

On top of these games, there is also Virtual Rick-ality from Adult Swim Games that is available on PlayStation VR and the Oculus Rift. There hasn’t yet been an open-world adventure for consoles, but that would also go down well with fans of the series.

It is highly exciting to think that the Vindicators will be getting their own series. This also spells huge potential for the direction of the franchise in the future. Rick and Morty fans are likely to be extremely pleased about the announcement.
