May The Verse Be With You: Ode to Street Fighter II

Street Fighter

Recently, SciFiPulse published Cobra Kai: Jonny Vs. Danny – Fight of the Dragons. The fun feature cast the two lead actors from hit show, Cobra Kai (you can read our Season Three Review) as Ryu and Ken, from Street Fighter II. So, it seemed a good time to pay homage to the legendary game, which for those of a certain age will never be bettered. A truly era defining moment in pop culture.

When Blanka turned electrical

if you wet near you fried;

or he’d climb on, and chomp your head,

then very soon you died

Remember Guile’s muscle vest

as he cried “sonic boom”?

But funnier was his odd hair

shaped just like a mushroom!

With yoga Dhalsim crossed the screen,

teleporting freely

avoiding her spin kick,

when you played as Chun-Li

But most of all a hadouken

is what’s remembered best

and helped you beat M Bison once

you reached the final test!

They really don’t make them like this, any more. The game has continued to enjoy commercial success, though. The character of Ryu has achieved massive popularity, even crossing over into other games. He was and always will be the best character in Street Fighter II. Ryu’s Wikipaedia Page tells you of his accolades. He’ll certainly be around for some time yet – awesome! See you next week readers.
