I don’t think many of us would be comfortable coming face to face with a “face-hugger” from the Alien franchise. But what if they’re really just misunderstood. This week May The Verse Be With You takes that premise, and does what we do best – has fun! You can watch here how terrifying the creature is. Maybe it’s tough to imagine they’re not all that bad . . . but just go with it – it’ll be worth it!
Face to Face
I only want to hug your face,
I’m friendly, honestly . . .
I can’t help I’m a deadly race
why such hostility?
I don’t have lips, to kiss, like yours,
my mouth is all spiky;
but really, is that any cause
for being mean to me?
You may not think it, but it’s true,
I do not hate your kind
Can’t our two species be like glue?
Is love not truly blind?
I’ve tried and tried again to show
that love’s my real aim,
but you really don’t want to know –
I’m not the one to blame
All you think is I’m just some sick
evil alien bug —
But of all ones my eyes could pick
I chose your face to hug!
Of all things you may have never imagined, a friendly Face-hugger in a poem must be up there, surely! Romance and deep space aliens can work, after-all. If beauty’s in the eye of the beholder, then why not? Surely, love finds a way? We’re unlikely to fully convince all of you, but it was an enjoyable endeavour, nevertheless! At least nobody can say we don’t try provide a right good giggle!
