With summer coming up, and ‘Ant-Man’ on the horizon, lots of movement, rumors, and tidbits of news from the Marvel Cinematic Universe are coming at the speed of Quicksilver.  The following contains some spoilers.

Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.

‘Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.’ has promoted Luke Mitchell, the electrifying Inhuman Lincoln, and Henry Simmons, the brawny mechanic Alphonzo “Mack” MacKenzie, to series regulars for Season 3.

Dr. Strange

Tilda Swinton is in talks to join Benedict Cumberbatch in ‘Dr. Strange,’ to portray the Ancient One, the Tibetan mystic who is a mentor to Dr. Strange.

Captain America: Civil War

Rumors abound about the role Martin Freeman will play in ‘Captain America: Civil War.’ The first rumor was that he would be playing Everett Ross, a government agent and interrogator who is a Wakandan expert, which would tie him in some way to Black Panther.

Now it seems, according to Latino Review, Freeman will be playing Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, Edward Chase.

Presumably, ‘Civil War’ will start with a mission involving British soldiers that goes badly for the Avengers. Chase will likely argue that the superhero group needs to have oversight.

There may also be a tie to ‘Avengers: Age Of Ultron,’ where there is a moment when Andy Serkis‘ Klaw, talking on the phone, says “Now, Minister, where were we?” Could that be Chase on the other end, perhaps trying to get vibranium to make weapons to deal with super-powered beings?

Samuel L. Jackson says he will not appear in Civil War.

“I was surprised I wasn’t in Civil War,” said Jackson, “because the Russo brothers told me I was. I don’t know what’s going on.”

The cast, to date, includes Chris Evans, Robert Downey Jr , Scarlet, Anthony Mackie, Paul Bettany, Don Cheadle, Jeremy Renner, Martin Freeman, Daniel Bruhl, Sebastian Stan, Chadwick Boseman, Emily VanCamp, Elizabeth Olsen and Frank Grillo. Joe and Anthony Russo are back to direct.

Then again, we were told at some point that Jackson would not appear in Age of Ultron.

Agent Carter

According to a tweet by Hayley Atwell, the magnificent ‘Agent Carter’ will be coming to Fox in the UK in July.

Guardians of the Galaxy 2

Director James Gunn announced on his Facebook page that he has finished the first draft of the screenplay for ‘Guardians of the Galaxy 2.’

According to Star Lord himself, Chris Pratt, Gunn has already filled him in on the details, and the pitch was so “remarkable” it made him tear up. Pratt says he now knows “everything” about Star Lord’s father, and even some of the songs that are going to make it onto the films Awesome Mix Vol. 2 soundtrack.

“His pitch and his idea legitimately put tears in my eyes it is so good,” said Pratt. “I cannot wait to get started on it and I cannot wait for people to se what he’s going to pull off with his second movie. It’s so big and so good.”

He also went on to say “From what I understand they heard it at Marvel and they said nothing. They were like, “Perfect.” No micro-managing of the idea, they just loved it so much that they didn’t have a note for it. It’s going to be remarkable.”

All Those Marvel Netflix Shows

After the success of ‘Daredevil,’ Netflix seems to be eyeing other Marvel properties for series. Marvel’s Netflix Phase 2 include series ideas for Punisher, Blade, Hulk, Ghost Rider, and ‘Avengers’ crossovers, among others. Those crossovers may involve limited series featuring Hawkeye, Black Widow, and Dr. Strange. None of the actors who have been cast in the movies have TV shows in their contracts, so how this plays out remains to be seen.

Marvel Wooing Teen Girls With Ant-Man Contest

Marvel is holding a contest that offers teenage girls the chance to attend the premiere of ‘Ant-Man’, starring Paul Rudd, through a DIY engineering competition.

Marvel’s Ant-Man Micro-Tech Challenge invites girls ages 14 to 18 (grades 9-12), across the U.S. to “design and build a DIY project using at least one readily available micro-technology component, which can enable tinkerers, makers, builders and future Imagineers to execute big ideas with a board that fits in their pocket and costs less than a video game,” according to the contest’s website. The projects can have a specific function or be solely for amusement. To enter you must submit a short video that demonstrates the project and explains how it will inspire other girls to pursue their science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) interests.

Five winners will receive a trip to California to be at the Dolby Theatre for the Ant-Man world premiere. They will also attend a special “The Evolution of Technology” workshop at Disneyland, where they will meet Walt Disney Imagineers and go on behind-the-scenes tours of Disneyland and Walt Disney Studios.
