Over the weekend. Acclaimed filmmaker and writer John Walsh gave fans a  first look at the Ray Harryhausen Film Awards, which will take place in June. The award is to encourage and reward filmmakers that create and innovate in the field of animation. Whether that be through Stop Motion or Digital.

As an honored Trustee of the Ray Harryhausen Foundation, Walsh has dreamed of having a Ray Harryhausen Film Awards for decades. Walsh as a film student famously met Ray Harryhausen and produced a short film about the innovative work that Harryhausen did. From that initial meeting, Harryhausen continued to encourage and support Walsh with his career and became a close friend. His video announcing the award shows off his own Award, which features embossed imagery from some of Ray Harryhausen’s most loved films. It is also fairly cool that the first Award’s takes place on what would have been Ray’s 101st Birthday year.
