Synopsis: Xena’s World Tour rolls on! Next stop…ROMANIA! Women and children are disappearing from a “haunted” village. Xena and Gabrielle must confront an Old God, one of malice and blood sacrifice, who craves a return to prominence, and will stop at nothing to gain new followers to carry out his awful bidding!

Review: Discord takes on a more prominent role in this fantastic issue of ‘Xena: Warrior Princess’.

The Story

Having found themselves in Romania. Xena, Gabrielle, and Discord find themselves hearing stories about people going missing in a haunted village hidden in a forest. Xena and Gabrielle agree to go in search of these people, but Discord chooses to stay behind and wait. After a few days pass Discord begins to be concerned for her two pet mortals and decides to go in search of them.

Vasil Georgiev provides some great artwork for this issue with a particularly nice couple of pages of Discord going into the forest in search of her friends on page 7. These panels suddenly pick up pace as Discord has to run from a pack of nicely drawn wolves.

Also, the interiors of the haunted castle are eery and beautiful at the same time. The way in which the combined work of colorist and artists play with the light and shadows on these pages amps up the drama and tension.

A Fantastic issue, which really gives us a bit of character development for Discord who perhaps cares a bit more for Xena and Gabrielle than she’d care to admit. I also enjoyed the fact that Discord has to battle with another god in order to save her friends and save the captured villagers.

Vita Ayala really does a great job of giving Discord the voice of a sulky teenager, which is how I imagine a young godling to be.

Overall. A wonderful issue. I wonder where they will wind up next month.
