In Review: Wonder Woman (2023-) #24 – What Does Mouse Man Know?

Synopsis: Wonder Woman’s appearance on Mouse Man’s island has led to disastrous consequences for our hero as she becomes a fugitive on the run. With locals too afraid to speak, will she ever get the answers she needs to find Etta and Emilie? Can she do it all with a screaming baby strapped to her back?! That’s right, the young daughter of Wonder Woman is along for the adventure!

The Story

Having reached Mouse Man’s island in the last issue, Wonder Woman encounters a young girl who isn’t making much sense, repeatedly saying, “Mouse Man knows.” Naturally, both Wonder Woman and the readers want to know what it is that Mouse Man knows. As the story progresses, Wonder Woman and the girl face off against Mouse Man’s security forces—thankfully, these soldiers have more words in their arsenal than the girl does. Wonder Woman defeats them with relative ease, even with her baby daughter strapped to her back. After rescuing the young girl and her mother, who was being taken away by the soldiers, Wonder Woman finally asks the question we’ve all been waiting for over the last couple of issues. Meanwhile, at his base, Mouse Man is working out when he receives a report about Wonder Woman from his soldiers—and he is far from pleased.

Artwork

Daniel Sampere continues to deliver fantastic artwork in this book. Near the beginning, there’s a striking page showing Wonder Woman standing tall opposite a mural of a soldier pointing, surrounded by giant mice—a fun image that sets the tone for the rest of the story. We also get a great sequence of panels where Wonder Woman battles a giant mouse to protect the young girl in her charge. There’s certainly no shortage of exciting action beats in this issue.

Overall

Much like the last issue, I was starting to get a bit fed up with the repeated “Mouse Man knows, mice have ears” phrase. Thankfully, there’s a bit more variation in the panels showing the soldiers communicating with each other. That said, I’m really hoping Tom King wraps up this story in the next issue—for both Wonder Woman’s sanity and my own. Otherwise, I’m going to start feeling homicidal every time I see a mouse on TV.
