In Review: Vampirella: Roses For The Dead #2

Synopsis: After avoiding a lethal clash with the Witch Evily, Vampirella continues to track down a serial sexual predator. Joining forces with Evily, they both decide that there is strength in numbers. Meanwhile, dark forces conspire to unleash an ancient demonic presence to destroy our United heroines.

Review: The second issue of this new mini-series sees Vampirella team up with the Witch Evily, and a lot of fun is had.

The Story

Picking up from the last issue. Vampirella has decided to team with Evily in order to track down a sexual predator. After the near-fatal clash. The two women decide to grab a bite to eat at a diner where they have to deal with a rather rude server who is consistently making comments about Evily and Elvira’s alternative dress sense.

From there the two go to Evily’s place where they plan to settles down for the evening, but things do not go according to plan.

Kristina Deak-Linsner does a brilliant job of creating a believable friendship between Vampirella and Evily. The way they deal with the rude waitress is hilarious. I also liked how she has Evily explain about her dog being her familiar and the way in which her dog allows her to ground herself and focus her power.

The Artwork

Artist Joseph Michael Linsner does some nice work here. I particularly liked the attack that takes place at Evily’s home when Vampirella holds the beast off to allow time for Evily to wield her magic.

I also liked the panels in which Vampirella receives her phone call about the man that they are after. The question is. Does she trust Evily enough to tell her about the lead?

Overall

A solid issue, which establishes the relationship between Evily and Vampirella as the bond over a common course. We get a nice mix of humor and action as the Vampire and the Witch go on their manhunt.
