Synopsis: WAR OF BLOOD! JOEY CHAPMAN, Union Jack, is at war with the brood of a certain vampire running amok in Manchester… But who is THE HUNGER? And what ally of Union Jack has fallen prey to his wicked ways?
The Story
Holed up in Union Jack’s safehouse PC Mara Syal and the survivors thought they’d found some respite from the vampires. Still, their peace is very quickly disturbed when newly turned Edward, originally a party member, leads a group of vampires to go after Union Jack. While Mara tends to Union Jack’s wounds and tries to talk him out of going after the invading vampires the other survivors prepare to make a stand. Meanwhile, Union Jack’s old friend Winston who is chained up tells Union Jack to go after the Vampires, which prompts Jack and Mara back into the fight. Unbeknownst to them, Winston has managed to loosen his chains and stands ready to assist them in going after the bastard that turned him.
Artwork
Kev Walker continues his mission to serve up some truly horrific imagery. The character drawing for Edward in vampire form is very imposing and serves his purpose as Jack’s tormentor in this issue.
Overall
Admittedly, we are a little late with this review and will be serving up our review of the final issue in the next day or so. However, this serves as a brilliant middle issue for the series and serves up plenty of action as well as some stunning dialogue. We get some great exchanges between the focal characters and at one point Edward claims that the vampires are just representative of what most of the British have always been like beneath the etiquette. Thankfully that isn’t the case. But it sure opens up an interesting discussion.
I look forward to reading the final issue given what this has set up.
