Synopsis: Season finale. For twenty years, Moiraine has dreamed and worked towards this moment. But she can’t stop the Dragon Reborn from seeing the appeal of the Dark.

The Story

Picking up from where last week left off. Rand and Moiraine have gone into the blight to face The Dark One. Rand has begun dreaming and has met Ishmal The Man, who is an avatar of The Dark One. Moiraine who has been working toward this her entire life has doubts about whether or not Rand can resist the temptation of the Dark and tries to help him as much as she can.

Meanwhile, back in the city news has gotten to Lord Agelmar and Lord Yakota that The Dark One’s forces are coming through the Gap. Immediate efforts are made to evacuate the city as the two Lords prepare for battle. Elsewhere,  Lady Amalisa puts out a call to all channellers to help her defend the city.

Back in the Blight. Rand has fallen unconscious and is in a dream state with Moiraine watching over him. In his dream, Ishmal is tempting Rand to take on the Dark part of the source by showing him an idealized life that he can live with Egwene. Meanwhile, Moiraine is having a fight of her own as she has her own discussion with Ishmal.

The Acting

Swedish actor Fare Fare is absolutely brilliant in the role of Ishmal who is essentially a human representation of the Dark One. The actor puts in a compelling performance and has some brilliant scenes. The scenes he has with Rand (Josha Stradowski) are pretty compelling as we see Ishmal try and tempt Rand who is the Dragon to take on the dark powers. In counterpoint to those scenes are the scenes in which Ishmal tries to mess with Moiraine (Rosamund Pike) who is guarding Rand.

The season one finale pretty much delivers on every front. In that, we get epic battles, life and death struggles, and more twists and turns than you can shake a stick at. Indeed, everything is looking good for a second season if the closing scene of this epic finale is anything to go by. As Moiraine says to Lan. This is only the first of many battles. I only hope that we get to see them.
