Synopsis: It’s all (obviously) led to this! Steve Austin: Barely alive! His body: Not-at-ALL functional! Secret Agent Niko Abe: Exhausted from trying to save the world while dragging a broken-down-cyborg all over the place! Can our jarringly-positive hero pick his nearly-worthless @$$ up in time to stop a secret assassination!?!?!?
Review: Broken, but not defeated. Steve Austin attempts to finish his mission and stop Amari.
The Story
Having jumped out of a plane without a parachute in the previous issue and broken into pieces. Steve Austin is a cyborg mess, but still alive.
Having retrieved him from the wreckage. Niko and a friend of Steves figure out a way to put him back together to an extent where he is functional enough to help them stop Amari from assassinating the Vice President of the USA. The only problem is. Amari has lived his life as a recluse. So no one outside of his immediate circle knows what he looks like.
The Artwork
David Hahn does some good stuff in this issue. The panels in which Steve is on a bed minus his arms and legs and being updated about the status of Amari were fun. But the panels in which we see the final throwdown between Steve and Amari are the big selling feature of this issue.
Overall
Christopher Hastings draws his story to a satisfying conclusion with some nice touches of humor along the way. Though having re-watched episodes of The Six Million Dollar Man rather recently. I can tell you that Steve was not as much of a joker as depicted in these issues. But with this story being set early on in his OSI spying career. That can be somewhat forgiven. Plus some of the jokes are pretty funny
Overall. A pretty solid story with lots of bionic breakdowns along the way, which is something we never saw a great deal of in the TV series other than on rare occasions where extreme cold clogged up Steve’s Bionics.
