Synopsis: In The Great Wave, Queen Regent Míriel’s faith is tested. Isildur finds himself at a crossroads. Elrond uncovers a secret. Arondir is given an ultimatum. Theo disobeys Bronwyn.

The Story

In the Kingdom of Numenor Galadriel seeks an alliance with the humans in the Kingdom to help fight for the humans in the Southlands. But Queen Regent Míriel shuts it down and throws Galadriel in jail when the elf dares to ask her about her father. Meanwhile, Isildur has been drummed out of the navy with his fellow cadets and finds himself at a crossroads.

In the Southlands, Arondir meets the leader of the Orcs who happens to be an elf called Ador who the orcs are referring to as their father. Ador gives Arondir a message to pass on to Bronwyn and the human survivors who have hidden in the watch towers. Theo disobeys Bronwyn and returns to their old village only to find himself being attacked by Orcs who want something from him. Theo just happens to bare the mark of Sauron his arm. A mark that he has in common with another one of Bronwyn’s people.

Elsewhere, Elrond suspects that his Dwarf friends are hiding something and is surprised to learn that they have been mining a new precious metal, which is as light as pure silk and really, really strong. Durin agrees to go with Elrond to help build the new forge for the elven King Celebrimbor.

Back on Numenor Galadriel escapes her cell and manages to convince Míriel to help her form an army and take back the Southlands from the Orks.

The Acting

Morfydd Clark and Cynthia Addai-Robinson get some great scenes in this episode as we see Galadriel try to convince a reluctant Míriel to complete the mission that she had started with her father during the first war against Sauron.

We also get a pretty good performance from Robert Aramayo and Owain Arthur as Elrond continues to try and persuade Durin to go with him and help build his king’s forge.

Overall

The Great Wave is another solid episode of this prequel to the Lord of the Rings series. The episode’s title refers to a vision that Queen Regent Míriel had in which she sees her island Kingdom wiped out by a huge wave. This is also the basis for why Míriel is reluctant to help Galadriel.

Overall a solid episode with a lot of fantastic mythology sewn into it and a great sequence where Theo with some help from Arondir manages to escape from the orcs that have taken over his village.
