In Review: The Flash – The Last Temptation of Barry Allen, Pt. 2

With the Flash battling Bloodwork, Iris and Cisco fight to help Barry take control of himself before he's lost forever

Synopsis: With the Flash battling Bloodwork, Iris and Cisco fight to help Barry take control of himself before he’s lost forever; the rest of the team fight to reclaim control of Central City from Bloodwork’s growing army.

Review: As Bloodwork’s story concludes. An epic chapter begins.

The Story

Bloodwork has managed to take control of the Flash turning him into Dark Flash and he has plans to use Starlabs equipment as a means to spread his infection across the entirety of the city.

Meanwhile, Iris and Cisco have a few disagreements on how to stop Bloodwork and get to a point where they seem to be resigned to the fact that they will never save Barry, but something Dark Flash says triggers Cisco and gets him fired up into executing a bold plan, which if successful could save everyone.

While Cisco and Iris work the problem at Starlabs. Cecile and Allegra struggle to stay ahead of the infected as they try to get to the relative safety of starlabs, which Allegra’s unique meta powers will be needed.

Carlos Valdes really steps up in this episode as Cisco has to truly embrace the mantle of leader and make some tough choices. The scene where Cisco and Iris have pretty much given up is fantastic. The defeat is written all over Valdes’s face as he gives us a look at Cisco momentarily doubting himself.

I was also impressed with Danielle Panabaker in both her roles of Caitlin Snow and Killer Frost, but mostly the latter. There’s a nice moment at the close where Frost is talking to Caitlin and Caitlin tells Frost that she has really come on. I think pretty much most of the viewing audience would agree with that sentiment and this episode was no exception to that rule.

Some strong performances and moments of genuine fear as we saw many of our favorite characters fight what seemed to be extremely difficult odds, but the looming crisis wasn’t too far away either, which meant that the audience knew that this arc would have to be resolved or at least put on hold in some way. Thankfully it was resolved, but not in such a way that it would be overly anti-climatic.

All we can all do now is wait and see what next week brings in the big five-episode crossover ‘Crisis on Infinite Earths’.
