Synopsis: In Anti-Hero Superman pleads with Lt. Anderson to investigate Ally Allston. Lois receives some very upsetting news. Lois helps Lana prepare to fight the good fight.
Having been arrested by Lt. Mitch Anderson in last week’s show. Superman finds himself sharing a cell with his brother Tal-Rho. Meanwhile back in Smallville events take a turn for the worst for Jonathan as he takes the fall for his girlfriend when he is found in possession of large amounts of X-Kryptonite. Elsewhere, The incumbent Mayor of Smallville uses the break up of Lana Lang Cushing’s marriage against her in the race to win another term.
While in custody at the D.O.D. Superman tries to get Anderson to look into Ally Allston, but all Anderson is interested in is capturing the Bizarro Superman. He even goes the effort of torturing Tal-Rho to try and get Superman to give up Bizarro’s location. However, Anderson’s plan fails on account of Superman and Tal-Rho deciding to work together and escape. Unfortunately for them. Anderson who is now under the influence of X-Kryptonite finds them and pretty much wrecks Superman’s fortress in the process of getting to Bizarro.
Tyler Hoechlin and Adam Rayner put in a fantastic performance as Superman and Tal-Rho decide to work together. The scenes of them in the cell are a lot of fun as they gradually outsmart Anderson who is played brilliantly by Ian Bohen.
We also get a really strong performance from Jordan Elsass as Jonathan Kent. The scene where he tells Lois that he no longer feels particularly special now that he is pretty much in the shadow of Jordan is rather sad to watch. It is only driven home so much more when Clark gives him a good telling off at the end. This is really solid consistent writing from the team behind the scenes. As so much has changed in the family dynamic for Jonathan who was the Football hero son at one point, but now feels lost seeing his younger brother surpass him.
Anti-Hero delivers another solid hour of Superman. I really enjoyed seeing Superman and Tal-Rho join forces and wonder if we might see a redemption story for Superman’s brother in the coming weeks. However, I was a little disappointed in the fact that Anderson was able to defeat Bizarro. That said though. We didn’t actually see Bizarro truly die. Somehow Anderson who was juiced on X-Kryptonite managed to break Bizarro’s neck. I think Bizarro may somehow get some sun and resurrect somehow. As I feel he is too good of a character to so easily blow off like that. Hopefully, I am right about this.
