IN REVIEW: SUPERMAN & LOIS (S2 – EP5) Girl… You’ll Be a Woman, Soon

Clark finds himself struggling with feelings of guilt about what happened to John Irons.

Synopsis: In Girl… You’ll Be a Woman, Soon Lana, Kyle and Sarah prepare for Sarah’s quinceañera, but things don’t end up going as smoothly as they had hoped. Clark finds himself struggling with feelings of guilt about what happened to John Irons.

The Story

Lois and Clark make preparations to allow the Cushing family to host Sarah’s quinceañera, which marks her journey into becoming a woman. However, a lot is happening in the background as Kyle Cushing’s secret affair is about to be revealed. Meanwhile, Jordan has his first training session with General Lane, which gets interrupted by his brother Jonathan who has taken a dose of X-Kryptonite. Which of course allows him to match Jordan’s speed and strength.

Elsewhere, a mysterious link between the Bizarro Superman and Ally Allston and her inverse society gets revealed.

The Acting

Inde Navarrette puts in a fantastic performance in this episode as she really sells Sarah’s heartbreak when finding out about her father’s affair. Likewise, Erik Valdez is also very convincing as a remorseful and somewhat confused Kyle who has been found out for something that happened some time ago.

We also get strong performances from Jordan Elsass and Alex Garfin as Jonathan and Jordan engage in a bit of brotherly rivalry. However, Elsass does a great job of selling Jonathan’s addiction to the X-Kryptonite, which has altered his personality somewhat.

Girl… You’ll Be a Woman, Soon proves to be a solid episode with a good mix of drama and action. We get a great battle between Superman and Bizarro sandwiched between the drama. Added to this, we get a bit more information on why Bizarro has been terrorizing Smallville. The connection between Ally and Bizarro is going to make for interesting viewing as the season moves forward.

Overall. This episode finally moves the story in a solid and coherent direction.
