Synopsis: With the storm still raging outside, our group of adventurers have finally found the treasure inside the Tomb of Ybwen! However, when the contents of the treasure prove disappointing, Will’s anger gets the better of him. Now, with Mr. Clarke’s condition worsening and the gang still stuck inside the mine, Will must face the consequences for his actions and come to terms with his grief.

The Story

Having found the Tomb of Ybwen. Will is disappointed to find that the only treasure is a letter from Newby, which thanks the treasure hunters for their efforts and offers them the reward of fellowship. However, Mr. Clarke whose condition is worsening tries to make Will see how cool it is that they have found the letter that Newby left so many years ago. But Will’s grief gets the better of him. But when Mr. Clarke passes out. The boys have to come to their senses and take action to brave the blizzard and somehow get Mr. Clarke back home.

The Artwork

Once again Diego Galindo brings some fantastic artwork to this book. I loved the sequence of panels in the cave where Will finds and reads the letter that Newby left. I appreciate how both artist and colorist managed to convey the aged look of the paper with that telltale browny yellow hue.

I also really enjoyed the final couple of pages where we see Will walking home. Galindo does a brilliant job of conveying how lonely will feels with the loss of Newby. The visual images work really well with Greg Pak’s wonderful writing of Newby’s letter to the treasure hunters.

Overall

A very fitting end to what has really been a fun story about Will’s personal loss and the fellowship that he has with his friends. As said above. The highlight of this issue is Newby’s letter to the treasure hunters. A letter, which could well have been written for Will and the boys. Given that they had that same adventurous spirit and curiosity that Newby had.
