Synopsis: Once upon a time on Rann, Adam Strange made a deal with his neighbors and foes to take a stand against the invading Pykkts. Now, on Earth, he is trying to do the same thing: to get all the heroes to rise as one to keep the marauders from doing to his home planet what they already did to his adopted one. But the original deal was a devil’s bargain, and Alanna Strange has received a mysterious letter that may tell her more than she wants to know. If she wants to keep her husband safe, it’s time for her to go on the offensive.

The Story

Earth is losing the war against the Pykkts. But, no one understands why. Especially given that Adam Strange and his soldiers had defeated the Pykkts on Rann. When Allanna Strange receives a mysterious letter. We finally get to grips with the shocking truth of the matter. Adam Strange lied about his heroics. A deal was struck and Earth was the prize. But there was so much more to it than that. After all. War is hell.

The Artwork

Mitch Gerads and Evan Shaner continue to blow me away with their art for this book. There is some great transition work between the scenes where Allana is reading the letter and the flashback panels of Strange and his Daughter battling the Pykkts on Rann. I loved the sequence in which Adam dives under the waters of Rann to bring the sea-folk in on the battle. I also loved the final page where Adam returns home to Allana and has found the letter. The expression on his face is worth a few hundred words. It speaks volumes.

Overall

This issue does a fantastic job of building upon what we saw in previous issues. I liked how the writer and artists synced up the images with the narrative that was coming forth from Mr. Terrifics letter. The reveal of the letter is devastating and if it all proves to be true. You have to wonder if Adam will be able to redeem himself in the eyes of his wife and of course the people of Earth.

I’m actually genuinely excited for the next issue.
