Starfinder

Synopsis: In the science-fantasy universe of the bestselling Starfinder roleplaying game, five down-on-their-luck mercenaries race across uncharted space on a desperate mission to avert a devastating war over faster-than-light technology.

In this chapter, our unlucky heroes find themselves on the wrong end of a pending execution! Can Navasi concoct a plan to save them all?

The Story

Having been taken prisoner by an Angel on the uncharted planet they were trying to get the hyperspace dimensions signal to. Captain Navasi and her crew find themselves facing death. However, some bookish locals visit them in their cells. A plan is hatched to enable their escape, which if successful could prevent the two races living on the planet from going to war. The only trouble is. The plan requires Obozaya to yield in a gladiatorial fight so as to create a distraction for their plan to work. Further complicating matters is the fact that Rute’bahja’s connection to the hyperspace angels is blocked by the unusual atmosphere on the planet.

The Artwork

Like in previous issues, Edu Menna knocks it out of the park with the artwork. I really loved the look of the gladiatorial space in which Obozaya has to fight a dragonlike alien. The fight is done fantastically well as we see the two combatants deliver some seriously brutal hits on each other. The visual elements of this book are so eye-poppingly good that words simply do not do them justice. I’d really love this series to be made into a film or a limited series, but I suspect the budget would need to have a lot of zeros to deliver on that.

Overall

Starfinder is proving to be one of the comics that I most look forward to each month and I can’t wait to see how this group of characters manage to escape and continue their adventures and what their next argument will be about.
