Synopsis: YODA VS. GENERAL GRIEVOUS…TO THE DEATH! The start of a new arc set during the tumultuous CLONE WARS! The Separatists have a powerful new weapon that can change the course of the war! Can Yoda and Anakin Skywalker discover the secret of the weapon in time?
The Story
In the present, Yoda hears an old voice from his past and gradually remembers a mission from the Clone Wars where he got intelligence about a new super weapon that the Seperatist were building. Armed with this information Yoda goes to the Jedi Council and asks to lead a mission to find out more. The mission pairs him with Anakin Skywalker and brings Yoda into contact with General Grievous. But what could this new powerful weapon possibly be?
The Artwork
Alessandro Miracolo pulls off some solid work in this issue. I loved the panels where we see Yoda navigating his way through the smaller and harder-to-reach areas of General Grievous’s base. But the best is saved for last as we see Yoda engage in a lightsaber duel with Grievous having some brilliant dialogue to accompany the great visuals. There is one point in the duel where Yoda flips into a summersault to literally travel over Grievious’s head. I also loved the various close-ups that Miracolo draws of Yoda’s face.
Overall
Marc Guggenheim pens a fun and interesting story that takes Yoda back to The Clone Wars. The dialogue between Yoda and Grievous during their duel is brilliantly written and I liked how it sort of seemed to be choreographed to be in sync with the action. I also loved the part at the beginning where we see Yoda in disguise looking to get information from a source. The eventual reveal that he was standing on top of a droid while wearing a Jedi robe was so much fun.
A great first chapter to what will hopefully turn into a brilliant story.
