In Review: Star Wars: Mace Windu (2024-) #1 (of 4)

ONE OF THE GREATEST JEDI MUST STOP AN INCENDIARY SECRET FROM FALLING INTO THE WRONG HANDS!
Windu

The Jedi Council send Mace Windu on a mission to retrieve a new type of fuel, which is 120 percent better than normal. To obtain this new fuel Windu is sent to Ro Mitra to find a young woman who is looking to sell this new fuel to the highest bidder. However, with Ro Mitra being a mining colony the types of characters that Mace will encounter are likely to be on the more salty side.

The Artwork

Georges Jeanty does a brilliant job with the art. We get a brilliant panel toward the middle of the book where Mace finds the city on Ro Mitra, which is viewed from Mace Windu’s perspective. We also get a great sequence of panels in which Mace gives chase to the young woman who is looking to sell the fuel. The trouble is she is also being chased by the local authorities.

Overall

It goes without saying that Mace Windu is perhaps one of the best characters from the Star Wars Prequel trilogy and one of those characters that we know the least about when it comes to his backstory. This new series by Marc Bernardin looks to address that issue and does a pretty solid job of it in this first issue. The story sees Mace having to become a sort of secret agent as he has to try and fit in on the planet of Ro Mitra and find the young woman that he has been tasked with finding by Yoda and the Jedi Council.

I look forward to seeing how this story unfolds in the months ahead.
