Synopsis: HAN SOLO IS BACK! But wait! Isn’t HAN still frozen in Carbonite? Yes. But you can’t keep a good smuggler down. Set a few years before Episode IV: A New Hope, Han, his partner, CHEWBACCA and GREEDO, embark on a heist for JABBA THE HUTT. It’s supposed to be an easy job. What could possibly go wrong?

The Story

After a somewhat botched but successful heist. Han and Chewie head to Jabba’s palace where another Job opportunity awaits. This new job involves a bit of safecracking in order to steal an urn that contains the ashes of one of Jabba’s former enemies. The only trouble is. This job involves Greedo, who Han doesn’t entirely trust. Furthermore, the job also means that Han Solo must return to his home planet of Corellia where he has many enemies that he left behind long ago.

Added to all of this. A Bounty Hunter is looking for Solo.

The Artwork

David Messina does a solid job of the artwork and goes with the Harrison Ford version of Han that we all know and love. So the character likenesses are really good.

Added to all of this. Messina does a fantastic job of the various different planetary settings. I particularly loved the panels with Marshall Buck Vancto who has been tasked with going after Han.

Overall

Writer  Marc Guggenheim does a great job of setting this story up and capturing the rebel spirit of the Star Wars underground. It’s also great to get some backstory about Han Solo and Greedo, which gives us some context to their meeting in Star Wars: A New Hope.

This first issue ends on a bit of a fun note where Han meets up with an old man in a bar. This final moment of the opening issue will have fans guessing for at least a month. Is this guy Han’s father? Or is he someone else entirely.
