Reign

Synopsis: In this penultimate issue of Crimson Reign. THE KNIGHTS OF REN have their role to play in QI’RA’S grand scheme to destabilize THE EMPIRE, and their task is arguably the most important…Something crucial is locked away in FORTRESS VADER, and the Knights must steal it. A heist on the SITH-controlled furnace world of MUSTAFAR…with the Galaxy as the prize!

The Story

Having learned about the Knights of Ren from The Archivist. Qi’ra meets up with their leader Ren and makes him an offer he can’t refuse. In short, Qi’ra asks The Knights to steal a mysterious key from Darth Vaders Castle on Musafar. Having been living hand to mouth by whatever they can steal. Ren accepts the mission and welcomes the resources that Qi’ra has to offer him. However, things go a little wrong when Ren and his Knights gain access to Vaders Castle and things do not go smoothly.

The Artwork

Steven Cummings does a solid job with the art and gives readers another look at Mustafar and the interior of Vader’s Castle. But it’s the exterior shots of the lava-filled planet that really create the atmosphere for this issue. Not to mention some of the action that takes place in the castle, which includes a confrontation with Darth Vader who is not too impressed by Ren and his Knights. The fight sequence between Ren and Vader is nicely done and feels very much like a scene from an as yet unmade animated series. Hopefully, Disney is paying attention to what is doing well in the comics because I’d love to see a series about Crimson Dawn. But I will settle for this comic for now.

Overall

Another great issue that expands on what we know about The Knights of Ren, which is something we really should have gotten from the sequel trilogy. Maybe these guys will get a comic book spin-off on the strength of this issue.
