In Review: Star Wars: Bounty Hunters (2020-) #33

The DARK LORD has ordered one of the EMPIRE’S deadliest commando units to take out VALANCE, BOSSK, 4-LOM and ZUCKUSS!

Synopsis: This Month on Star Wars: Bounty Hunters. The DARK LORD has ordered one of the EMPIRE’S deadliest commando units to take out VALANCE, BOSSK, 4-LOM and ZUCKUSS! Meanwhile, assassin droid IG-88 has his sights on another high-value target. But who is he after and who hired him?

The Story

Picking up from last month. T’onga and her bounty hunters, which include Valance, Bossk, 4-Lom, and Zuckuss have narrowly escaped the Empire by flying through an asteroid field to a nearby trading outpost where they plan to pick up a new hyperdrive. However, it seems that a few of their Imperial chasers have anticipated them and are planning an ambush.

Meanwhile, the Empire has continued to place bounties on the heads of members of Crimson Dawn. And IG-88 is having a field day as he leaves a trail of death in his wake. His next target is Vulkorah. The head of The Unbroken Clan.

Paolo Villanelli has a lot of fun with the action beats throughout this issue. But one of my favorite panels comes early on in the book where Commandor Versio gives a briefing to her second-in-command on how dangerous T’onga’s team is as both a team and as individuals. I love how well-detailed the art was that represented each of the bounty hunter’s holographic images. I also liked how the speech bubbles kind of wrapped around the image.

I also loved the panels of Valance who continues to erk Bossk.

This penultimate issue of this story arc delivers the goods as Commander Versio demonstrates how sneaky she can be. I loved the eventual meeting between Versio and T’onga and the brief fight that follows. I’m also enjoying the continued antagonistic relationship between Bossk and Valance, which is something that has been boiling over since the third issue, which is a long time given that this book started its run in early 2020.
