The Story
Picking up from where the last issue left off. Valance has found out that Darth Vader and the Empire murdered his people while he was in their service. Obviously, such a crime cannot go unpunished and to that end, Valance challenges Darth Vader as soon as he sees him and an epic fight ensues. The fight is so intense that not even Lieutenant Haydenn can talk Valance down from him. Watching from afar T’onga and her bounty hunters make preparations to rescue Valance in order to save him from himself. Meanwhile, Lieutenant Haydenn has decide what she loves more. Valance or The Empire.
The Artwork
Paolo Villanelli produces some stunning art for this issue. The panels in which we see Valance dueling with Darth Vader are truly epic and really have a visceral feel to them. As I was reading and looking at the book I could visualize the character’s battle in my head like a movie. It’s a truly cinematic series of panels. Even at the end of the fight where we see Valance get picked up by T’onga and her crew. You see a truly broken and grief-stricken person. In short the artwork throughout this issue is an amazing visual feast for the eyes.
Overall
A brilliant issue with some fantastic character moments. I loved the part at the end where Zuckus boast about his race’s expertise for finding things when T’onga and the crew are looking for Valance who has just fallen off a rock face. The art as mentioned above is truly epic in this issue and the battle between Vader and Valance has been well and truly earned. But there is still unfinished business, which means that the empire has not finished with Valance yet.
