IN REVIEW: STAR WARS: BOOK OF BOBA FETT (S1 – EP4) The Gathering Storm

Synopsis: In The Gathering Storm we get the backstory of how Boba Fett hooked up with Fennec Shand by saving her life after her encounter with The Mandalorian.

The Story

This week’s story is mostly made up of a flashback sequence in which we see how Boba Fett met and befriended Fennec Shand. As fans of The Mandalorian will recall. Fennec was pretty much left for dead in the desert of Tatooine. As luck would have it Boba happened to be passing her way and found her. Seeing that she was close to death he takes her to a robotics modder in order to have her fixed given that the blast to her gut is so serious that she cannot be saved any other way.

When Fennec awakes from the operation. Introductions are made and then we see a mission as Boba and Fennec look to steal his ship from Jabba’s palace.

After the flashback sequence concludes. We see Boba with a gathering of the various crime bosses of Tatooine as he persuades them to join him in an alliance.

The Acting

Temuera Morrison and Ming-Na Wen carry this episode for the most part as we see the initial meeting between Boba Fett and Fennec Shand. After which we get treated to some awesome action beats. Indeed, one of the best moments for me is when they fly Boba’s ship close to the maw of the Sarlacc pit to find Boba’s armor.

We also get a fun scene in Garsa Fwip’s bar in which Garsa talks a rather angry Black Krrsantan out of murdering some of her clientele. Jennifer Beals is very persuasive in this role. 

Overall

As stated at the beginning. This episode is mostly made up of backstory and although we get to see some cool stuff happen. I am kind of hoping that this will be the last of the backstory that we see. As I am more interested in the storyline that is happening in the present.

By the close of this episode, Boba has concluded that he needs to create an army if he is to have any chance of defeating the Pykes. Thankfully Fennec knows a few people that may be able to help. Interestingly when she says that she knows people we get a brief music cue with the main Mandalorian theme in it. Which may or may not be hinting that we could see him pop up in the next episode.

Overall a fun episode.
