Review: Greg Pak’s epic tale continues and begins paving the way for the Rebel Base on Hoth.

The Story

Picking up from where the last issue left off. Han, Leia and Dar Champion are strafing by the superstar destroyer and have to come up with a plan fast. Meanwhile, on  K43 Threepio and Chewbacca continue to try and disarm the bombs they have set in order to try and save the natives. On the planet, Sergia Luke leads the evacuation of the Rebels and gets passage off-world for Warba before he sets out to help Han, Leia, Threepio, and Chewbacca.

This issue ends an a cliffhanger that will have readers on the edge of their seats. A big hint as to what happens is on the cover of the comic. Will our Rebel friends find a way out of danger and find a new location for the new Rebel base? To find all that out you’ll have to check out issue 75, which will hit comic stores next month.

The Artwork

Phil Noto continues to smash the ball out of the court with his artwork. There are some fantastic panels in this issue with some dramatic exterior shots of Han, Leia, and Champion flying at the Star Destroyer to some brilliant imagery set on the planet K43. The panels where we see Luke crash on the planet and see him get out of his X-Wing to only see Darth Vader’s back in the distance is absolutely epic. Noto conducts his panel work brilliantly to the John Williams theme tune that will be playing in every reader’s head when they read this issue.

This issue artfully brings all three-story threads together as our heroes begin the task of coming back together in order to fight the fight of their lives. Chewbacca gets his moment as we see him take on Darth Vader in the closing pages.

I look forward to next month’s issue so I can see how this story arc will meld into the next one. The past few months of this ongoing series have been really strong and have introduced some fantastic characters along the way. So I am looking forward to seeing how they come across Hoth and what difficulties they get into as they set up the new Rebel base. That is assuming that we get to see it happen.
