In Review: Star Wars (2025-) #6 – New Republic in Peril

Synopsis: New Republic on the brink of war! LUKE, HAN and VALANCE face off against a swarm of Clone War-era threats! PRINCESS LEIA plays the only card she has left against the mounting threat! RYNN ZENAT discovers a clue that sheds light on the struggles of the mysterious NAGAI!

The Story

The New Republic edges closer to war as Luke Skywalker, Han Solo, and Beilert Valance don Clone War–era armour to face a resurgent droid threat. The trio engage waves of battle droids blocking their path to aid New Republic allies. During the fight, Luke reflects on his legacy—seeing echoes of his father, Anakin, in his own actions—and wrestles with the weight of expectations.

Back on the political front, Princess Leia struggles to maintain cohesion within the Republic. She meets with Mon Mothma to discuss strategies, revealing the fatigue and sacrifices involved in steering such a fragile government.

Meanwhile, Rynn uncovers critical information tied to the mysterious Nagai and the growing unrest among Nagai factions on Kaltrais. This revelation links back to earlier threads involving the Zantarrk gang and the Fenril Consortium, underscoring how rebellion can emerge even from fragmented systems.

Though much of the issue focuses on explosive action, it also propels the wider political drama forward, deepening the interconnected web of insurgencies threatening the New Republic’s stability.

Artwork

Phil Noto delivers solid artwork throughout this issue. A standout moment comes with a dynamic double splash page featuring Han Solo, Valance, and Luke completely overwhelmed by Clone War–era droids—it’s both chaotic and beautifully composed. We’re also introduced to Marntiv, one of the Nagai pursued by the Zantarrk. His arrival is strikingly cinematic, as Noto frames him stepping from shadow into light, giving the moment real dramatic weight.

Overall

This issue does a solid job of weaving several plot threads together, giving readers a clearer picture of the various conflicts and factions at play. A standout character moment sees Leia calling out Mon Mothma for her defeatist attitude—a sharp exchange that highlights the growing tension within the New Republic’s leadership. I’m looking forward to seeing how things unfold in the next issue, particularly with Reyna Oskure, who’s shaping up to be a compelling and unpredictable villain.
