Synopsis: RETURN TO CLOUD CITY! HAN SOLO, BEILERT VALANCE and LANDO CALRISSIAN must help an old friend. Witness the long friendship of HAN, CHEWIE and LANDO in exciting flashbacks to bygone eras! And a mysterious figure from the past re-emerges using a new model CLOUD CAR!

Story

Having returned from his side quest with the Nagai pilot—and with a Jedi artifact in hand—Luke Skywalker reconnects with Rynn Zeenat and heads back home to figure out what’s really going on. Meanwhile, on Cloud City, Lando receives a visit from an old friend: Garlev, a fellow smuggler from a mission they undertook a decade earlier. Badly injured and carrying urgent news meant for both Lando and Han Solo, Garlev’s arrival sets things in motion. Upon receiving Lando’s message, Han and Valance rush to Cloud City aboard the Falcon—but by the time they arrive, someone has already gotten to Garlev, killing him before he can share what he knows. Elsewhere, on a distant planet, a group of rebels finds themselves hunted by Trade Federation droids long thought obsolete since the Clone Wars.

Artwork

Phil Noto continues to draw up a storm in this issue. The book is filled with fantastic panels, but the ones that stood out to me most were the flashbacks to a mission Han, Lando, and Chewie once undertook with Garlev—a mission he kind of tricks them into joining in order to rescue some of his people. These scenes help flesh out Garlev’s backstory and give weight to why he’d risk his neck to deliver a message to Han and Lando in the present day. One panel in particular shows Han grabbing Garlev and pointing at him, instantly reminding me of the kinds of heated moments we saw between Han and Leia aboard the Falcon in The Empire Strikes Back. Only this time, the anger isn’t romantic—it’s frustration over being misled.

Overall

This issue adds some intriguing new layers to the story set in the early days of the New Republic, while also reuniting Han Solo and Lando Calrissian in a way that feels both nostalgic and fresh. I’m looking forward to seeing how these plot threads develop in future issues.
