Synopsis: THE BROKEN SABER OF SKYWALKER! LUKE SKYWALKER searches for one of the rarest substances in the galaxy…KYBER – the living crystal that powers LIGHTSABERS! Does it hold the answer to the unpredictable thing the Force has become (see HIDDEN EMPIRE #5!)? What long-lost secret is he about to uncover?

The Story

Having damaged his saber during the escape from No Space in the last issue. Luke is looking to try and build his own Lightsaber but has no instructions on how to construct one. What he does know is that he needs to get a new Kyber Crystal to power it. But most planets where they are in ample supply are locked down by the Empire. Meaning that Luke must search for Kyber on the Planet Christophsis where the minors sometimes find Kyber and sell it on the black market.

As he arrives on the planet Luke is given a friendly greeting by a Bar Tender who is really looking to claim the Bounty that the Empire has on Luke’s head. However, Luke is saved from that fate by a mysterious young woman called Greta who offers to help him.

The Artwork

Madibek Musabekov does some great work on this issue. I was most impressed with the visual representation of Luke’s damaged Saber and how he depicted the erratic behavior of it. The likenesses of the characters in this issue are pretty damn good. And the character drawing of Greta is fantastic. I loved the color choice of her hair. I also loved the panel where Luke and R2D2 are looking toward the town when they arrive at Christophsis. It’s a visual promise of adventures to come and a great way of staging what is to come.

Overall

This is a fantastic issue that sets out to answer a question that this fan has had for years. How did Luke go about constructing his new saber and where did her get the components from? So am pretty happy to be finally getting this question answered and look forward to seeing what happens next.
