Synopsis: This month on Star Trek: Resurgence. With the Theseus crew’s rescue of infamous warp scientist Dr. Leah Brahms having gone awry and new revelations calling the Federation’s choices into question, Captain Solano and his crew are forced to determine whether the scientific ends justify the military means to join the enemy.

The Story

With the rescue of Dr. Leah Brahms having gone array in the last issue. Captain Solano learns that Brahms has been working with the Talarians to build a new Warp engine, which the Federation does not approve of. Now a prisoner of the Talarians Solano finds himself in a fix. He either goes along with Dr. Brahms plan to build her new Engine, which benefits both the Talarians and the Federation or he and his crew remain prisoners of the Talarians. Going along with Dr. Brahms. Solano chooses to work alongside the Talarians. However, his First Officer Commander Sutherland has his misgivings and proceeds to move forward with another plan with a little help from Jono who wants to try and build a future for Talaria without war.

The Artwork

Josh Hood and Charlie Kirchoff continue to do some great work on this issue. I loved the opening few pages where we saw a flashback scene to Captain Picard showing Jono San Francisco and telling him about how the different cultures of earth finally came together in peace and went to the stars. It’s all nicely drawn and I loved seeing the younger version of Jono pretty much drawn as how he looked in the TNG episode.

Added to all of this we get some great action beats as Commander Sutherland runs around the ship trying to come up with a plan that will get them out of Talarian space.

Overall

The writing team continues to do some really good work here and has crafted a story that could easily be a television episode. I’ve really enjoyed getting re-acquainted with the Talarians and their culture but especially enjoyed seeing a more mature Jono who seems to be starting to think a little more like Captain Picard.

This comic book prequel to the forthcoming Resurgence game is doing a great job of setting the scene and I’m really looking forward to the game’s release on PS5 when it finally comes out.
