Defiant

Synopsis: Convinced that the only hope to prevent planetary genocide lies in understanding how the power of the gods is being harvested, Captain Worf and First Officer Spock set the stolen Defiant on course to break into a highly guarded Section 31 outpost to recruit the highest computing mind in the galaxy…LORE!

The Story

Having come to the conclusion that Kahless is using a variation on the same technology that Lore used to lure a Crystalline entity into attacking Enterprise D. Worf and Spock take the Defiant and her crew on a covert mission to Dead Moon 1. A top secret Section 31 facility where Lore is being held. As they Liberate the psychotic android. Worf and Spock find him to be somewhat remorseful for his past actions. But can he be trusted?

The Artwork

Once again Angel Unzueta and Marissa Louise deliver the goods with some thrilling artwork. We get a great moment where The Defiant has to fly straight through an Orion Mine Field in order to track down a lead on where Kahless got his supplies. The image of Defiant flying out of the minefield is absolutely awesome and well and truly worthy of being blown up into a poster, that would look great on any bedroom wall.

Overall

This second issue of Christopher Cantwell’s story builds brilliantly on what was established in the first issue. The dialogue exchanges between Spock and Worf continue to work well as we see them start to work fairly well together. However, we do have some interesting and fun conflict between Worf’s choice of Engineer as we see B’Elanna Torres continue to lock horns with Lieutenant Ro. Both women had been members of the Maquis and were at odds over who did the most for the defunct terrorist group that turned its back on The Federation over how the Federation dealt with former colony worlds that they’d handed over to Cardassia.

Overall. There is a lot of fun to be had with these characters and I’m really enjoying the story so far. Especially given how delicate Worf’s crew seems to be. I look forward to seeing how things pan out in the next issue.
