Synopsis: This month on Star Trek. The newly established Obsidian Council of Cardassia Prime has spoken: The time has come for Benjamin Sisko to stand trial for the atrocities he ordered and for his contributions to war crimes by the Federation during the Dominion War.
The Story
Having paid a visit to Cardassia in the last issue. Sisko finds himself standing trial for War Crimes and must hand over command of the Theseus to Data who has the task of leading what could potentially be a suicide mission. Defending Sisko is his old friend and former Cardassian Spy or is that Tailor? Garak. While Data leads a mission to recover some Bajorian Orbs. Sisko has to put his faith in the Cardassian Justice system and the memories of the Cardassian people that his role in the war helped liberate. But given that the trial is being resided over by Barada Damar the Nephew of Legate Damar.
The Artwork
Mike Feehan does a fairly good job overall with this book’s art. But the likenesses of certain characters can be a little hit-and-miss when drawn at certain angles. This is very noticeable during the panels where Data is visiting Sisko in the Cardassian prison as the establishing image of Data looks a little off.
At a certain point in this story. We get a nice homage paid to the Deep Space Nine TV show as we see Jake Sisko recall the adventure he had with his dad when they navigated space in a Bajorian Sail Barge. The art for this segment, which sees Theseus kitted out with Bajoran Sales is brilliant to look at. It also made me smile seeing Tom Paris’s big goofy grin while using an old ship’s steering wheel to steer the ship.
Overall
This story continues to entertain and uses some of the best characters from across several incarnations of Star Trek. Indeed the thing that keeps me coming back is having the chance to see Captain Sisko lead a crew made up of favorite characters from Star Trek: The Original Series, DS9, and Star Trek: Voyager. Furthermore, this issue sees the return of Garak. A character that provided hours of entertainment during the seven-year run of DS9. And Collin Kelly does a brilliant job of writing for Garak.
