In Review: Space Ghost #9 Jan, Jace, and Blip Fight to Save Space Ghost from Metallus!

Synopsis: With his old foe Space Ghost on the ropes, Metallus surveys the destruction he has wrought — and deems it good. Now it’s all up to Jan, Jace, and Blip to somehow pull victory from the jaws of defeat — and help their mentor take Metallus down once and for all!

The Story

Picking up where the previous issue left off, things are looking grim for Space Ghost. Stripped of his powers after Metallus destroyed his power bands, Space Ghost seems to be no longer a threat. Confident in his victory, Metallus turns his attention to destroying Cetia 7, the homeworld of the Galactic Federation.

On Cetia 7, Jace, Jan, and Blip are doing their best to hold back Metallus’s Robo Army while helping Federation citizens reach safety. Meanwhile, aboard Metallus’s ship, Space Ghost is far from defeated. Relying on his wits and raw strength, he systematically takes down Metallus’s forces one by one. In true Die Hard fashion, Space Ghost channels his inner John McClane, turning the enemy’s ship into his battleground. Metallus has clearly underestimated just how determined Space Ghost is to see justice served.

The Artwork

Jonathan Lau brings us some truly chilling visuals in this issue. The destruction unleashed on Cetia 7 is both breathtaking and haunting, capturing the scale of devastation in vivid detail. Watching Jace, Jan, and Blip stand their ground against the relentless onslaught of Metallus’s deadly army creates some genuinely cinematic moments. If anyone were considering bringing Space Ghost back as a feature-length animated film, they wouldn’t need to look any further than this series for inspiration.

Most striking, however, are the panels where Space Ghost moves through the shadows, systematically dismantling Metallus’s forces. The tension builds beautifully until the climactic final duel with Metallus, making these scenes unforgettable.

Overall

David Pepose David Pepose wraps up this story arc with Space Ghost affirming that Jace, Jan, and Blip are not just his allies—they’re his new family, and anyone who messes with them does so at their own peril. This point is driven home by the sight of a thoroughly broken Metallus, crumpled on the floor and awaiting his fate at the hands of the Galactic Federation Authorities. While there’s little doubt Metallus will resurface in the future, it doesn’t feel like it’ll be anytime soon.

Overall a really fun story with a satisfying conclusion.
