Synopsis: After the shattering events of issue #5 of Space Ghost, Robo-Corp is working hard to keep the forces of the Galactic Federation busy and distracted. To that end, they’re bringing in their heaviest hitter to aid in their evil scheme — MOLTAR!

The Story

Jace has left the teal because he is struggling with the guilt of having killed Zorack. Now a team member short Space Ghost, Jen and Blip must go up against Moltar who has promised he will end Space Ghost forever and has found a potential way to do so by using his resonator to destroy Space Ghost’s personal force field with the molten lava from the core of a planet. Can Jace pull himself out of his personal hell and rejoin the fight against the galaxy’s evildoers? That’s what we’ll find out in this issue.

Artwork

Jonathan Lau continues to produce some fantastic artwork for this book. I really loved the character drawings of Molter and particularly loved the various sequences and panels where we see him use his resonator device to bring up the molten lava from the core of planets and somehow control it to such an extent that he can hurt people with it as well as entire buildings. I also loved how good the microexpressions were when we read and saw the quieter moments. I particularly enjoyed the sequence where Jen tried to talk Jace back into contributing to the team. Even if it just meant using his technical genius to improve their ship.

Overall

David Pepose continues to give us a compelling story with character moments that are respectful of the original Space Ghost series. I really enjoyed how well he was able to capture Jace’s feelings of guilt over having killed Zorack. I also enjoyed and appreciated how difficult it was for Space Ghost deal with helping Jace process his feelings. It all felt very true to life, but within the context of the fantasy world that is Space Ghost.

Overall a brilliant book that continues to respect the source material while modernizing it so that it doesn’t change the things that make it what it is.
