In Review: Sharkey The Bounty Hunter #1

Synopsis: Set in a brilliant new sci-fi universe, Sharkey is a blue-collar bounty hunter who tracks criminals across the galaxy in his converted, rocket-powered ice-cream truck. Aided and abetted by his ten-year-old partner, he’s out for the biggest bounty of his career.

Review: Mark Millar strikes again with a brand new series about a Bounty Hunter with some serious debt issues and some of the funniest putdowns you’re likely to hear this side of the Galaxy.

The Story

Having just completed a recent Bounty Hunting mission Sharkey enjoys some down time with a rather interesting alien lady, but partway through his downtime, he learns that he is now responsible for a 10-year-old kid. And if that isn’t enough. He is now being offered the bounty to end all his debt problems and then some.

The Artwork

Simone Bianchi does a brilliant job of bringing Mark Millar’s alien worlds to life and this first issue sees much of the action taking place on a Planet that makes Moss Eisley look like a Kindergarten planet for juvenile wannabes.

The look of the bar in which we first meet Sharkey is very seedy and very much lived in.

I also love the notion of the Ice Cream ship, which in a strange way does look kind of cool.

Overall

This introduction to Sharkey Bounty Hunter already has me very excited for the Netflix Movie, which is going to follow. The character of Sharkey is a lovable anti-hero who has some really funny put-downs and his opening scene with the perp he was hunting, which comments on Baldness had me in hysterics, which is why am not going to even try and regurgitate it because it has to be read in order to get the full effect.

I also loved the comment on extreme body modification, which is made with a bit of cheeky fun to boot.

Overall. ‘Sharkey The Bounty Hunter’ looks like it could well be another hit for Mark Millar and will make for a wonderfully fun movie series. Hopefully, Netflix keeps all the humor and fun.
