Synopsis: Immediately following the events of the smash-hit Big Game, Nemesis lies broken and destroyed, but he’s hell-bent on vengeance against every single person who wronged him. The bloody comeback begins here as he puts together a plan for the ages.

The Story

After being severely beaten during the events of Big Game, Nemesis, also known as Mr. Anderson, is confined to a prison hospital, paralyzed. However, he’s not completely helpless—a plan is in motion for him to escape and seek revenge. Things don’t go as planned when an employee at the hospital, the father of one of Nemesis’s victims, somehow acquires the resources to try to kill the supervillain. What this would-be avenger doesn’t know is that a group of mercenaries is on their way to break Mr. Anderson out and deliver him to the ancient Babylonian cult that raised him.

The Artwork

Valerio Giangiordano and colorist Lee Loughridge excel at capturing the murder and mayhem that this particular Mark Millar creation is known for. One of my favorite visuals is when Mr. Anderson spits chicken bones into his would-be killer’s face, blinding him. I also loved the panels depicting Nemesis’s arrival at the headquarters of the Babylonian cult that created him.

Overall

Nemesis remains one of Mark Millar’s coolest creations and perhaps one of the most fun comic book villains since The Joker. I really enjoyed this opening issue of the sequel to Big Game and look forward to seeing how things unfold as our favorite villain finds and trains his sidekick, which is something we’ll get to see in the next issue. Hopefully, we’ll also see more of the people seeking revenge on Nemesis.
