Synopsis: Nemesis has a plan to enslave humanity through his digital revolution. But a skilled federal agent has infiltrated his inner circle, determined to bring him down from within. Can she stop him before he discovers her true identity—or has he known all along?
The Story
Picking up where the previous issue left off, CIA Agent Kitty Tepper has made contact with Tommy Golota, a hitman with direct access to Nemesis himself. Under the alias Sophie Stien, an explosives expert being recruited for one of Nemesis’s elite teams, Tepper’s mission takes a dangerous turn — to prove herself, she must commit a public murder.
Complicating matters further, the real Sophie Stien has escaped captivity and is now on the run, threatening to expose Tepper’s cover at any moment. Meanwhile, Nemesis faces his own problem: a persistent reporter digging too deep into one of his secret identities, leading to an explosive confrontation in Monte Carlo.
Artwork
Matteo Scalera and Giovanna Niro continue to deliver outstanding work on this book. The early panels, where Agent Tepper is being tested for the job by Tommy Golota, are filled with palpable tension. I particularly loved the close-up of the gun and knife when Tommy offers Tepper the choice of which weapon to use to murder the bartender — a perfect moment that ramps up suspense as we wait to see her decision. Equally engaging is the sequence toward the end, where Nemesis deals with a persistent reporter threatening his alter ego, wealthy tech billionaire Hans Berg, in a stylishly explosive fashion.
Overall
This issue does a solid job of building on the story and characters introduced in the opening book. Agent Tepper comes across as likable, which makes it all the more tense to imagine what could happen if Nemesis discovers she’s spying on his operation. The question remains: will this final Nemesis series see him stopped once and for all, or will he once again outsmart the authorities and make a clean getaway? I guess we’ll all have to wait and see.
