Mother of All

Synopsis: In Mother of All, Mother of None. Distrust in Alder grows as Tally and Abigail pressure those in power for changes. Raelle gains a deeper understanding of the Mycelium and its purpose for her.

The Story

Having successfully captured Nicte Batan in last week’s show. Tally is called upon to interrogate the Spree Leader and uses the interrogation as a means to expose some of the truth about Alder’s crimes. This includes the revelation that the General supported the President. However, it proves all for naught as the President works with General Bellweather to cover up what Alder has done and retire her from service. Unhappy with this turn of events Tally looks for a way to legally challenge Alder and prevent Nicte’s execution.

Meanwhile, while communicating with the Mycelium Raelle learns a few things about its origins. She finds out that the Mycelium was brought to life by the cruel murder of Witches by the  Camarilla. Indeed, this forces Raelle to rebel against Fort Salem’s plans for her. Also, seeing that her mother now has the run of Fort Salem. Abigail seeks promotion in order to take on the Camarilla.

No sooner as things settle down at Fort Salem. The Camarilla attack with their Witch Plague.

The Acting

Arlen Aguayo-Stewart puts in a great performance as Nicte. Her scenes with Tally (Jessica Sutton), which lead to the revelations about Alder are brilliantly acted and sets up the episode brilliantly. Likewise, Sutton also impresses throughout the whole episode as Tally works fervently to expose the truth.

Mother of All, Mother of None is a fantastic episode that pulls on quite a few of the plot threads sawn throughout the season. Indeed, the truth finally outing about Alder and the secrets she has been keeping has really set things in motion. Furthermore, what Raelle learns about Alder from her commune with the Mycelium also presents us with all kinds of story potential. Equally, it also ensures that Alder can still be of use in some way. Given that it was her grief at the betrayal of the British Red Coats that created the Mycelium link with all the dead Witches. Quite how it will be used as the series develops is likely to create a lot of fan speculation.

Overall. A really enjoyable episode.
