Synopsis: In ‘Brianna’s Favorite Pencil’. The Unit competes for a chance to commune with the dead during Samhain. Scylla and Anacostia search for Camarilla leadership by attending a Halloween gala and make a horrifying discovery.
Picking up from last week. Adil and Khalida are traveling through India by train with General Sharma when the train is attacked by the Camarilla. Back at Fort Salem Abigail is having difficulties dealing with the trauma of having been attached by Camarilla who is responsible for the murder of her sister Charvel Bellweather. Indeed, Abigail has pretty much given up all hope.
The Samhein celebrations may offer her a chance to reclaim herself. If they can defend an attack from spirits that are firing arrows at their fire until midnight. Abigail, Tally, and Raelle will win the opportunity to commune with the dead person of their choosing. Abigail wants to commune with her sister, while Tally wants to commune with a dead soldier because she wants some answers about General Alder’s shady past. Raelle wants to speak with her mother, which is a bit of a problem because her mum isn’t dead.
Meanwhile, Scylla and Anacostia attend a Halloween Gala in order to find out who is leading the Camarilla in their area. But when they arrive they make a horrifying discovery when the Camarilla leader offers up a little girl. A young Witch who he condemns to stoning. Anacostia and Scylla are having none of it and proceed to make haste and try to save the child.
Taylor Hickson and Ashley Nicole Williams put in solid performances this week as both Raelle and Abigail have somewhat of an emotional rollercoaster to deal with. I have to confess that I felt really sorry for Raelle when she wasn’t able to get what she wanted from the Samhain celebrations. It will be interesting to see how Raelle will react if she ever finds out that her mother is still alive. Likewise, I empathized a great deal with Abigail’s loss of confidence in herself. And her reunion with her sister via the Samhein ritual was just the lift she needed. Indeed, I think we are going to see Abigail back to her kick-ass self in the weeks to come.
Amalia Holm doesn’t take any prisoners this week as Scylla opens a can of whoop-ass on the Camarilla. But I get a strong impression that Anacostia is not going to be happy with Scylla’s methods. Especially, given that they are meant to be working together. Scylla’s speech just prior to rescuing the little girl and taking out the leader of the Camarilla cell was chilling.
‘Brianna’s Favorite Pencil’ delivers a solid episode that builds on the camarilla storyline and brings Abigail back to her old self. I liked the storyline with Raelle and I continue to enjoy how Tally is the stabilizing influence in the group.
Overall a strong episode, which builds onto the ongoing story nicely.
