Synopsis: Mac and Desi travel with Bozer to his childhood home when his aunt dies in a tragic accident, and soon discover she may have been murdered for trying to expose the city’s contaminated H2O supply.

The Story

When Bozer gets a call informing him that his Aunt has died. He heads home with Mac and Desi to spend time with family. Upon arrival, Mac senses that something is not quite right with the circumstances surrounding the death of Bozer’s mum. So, an investigation begins in which the gang learns that Bozer’s mum had discovered that the town’s H2O/Water supply was contaminated. Furthermore, some crooks were looking to cover it up, which is why Bozer’s mum got killed. With a little help from Bozer’s father Milton. Mac and the team are able to solve the case.

Meanwhile back at the Pheonix Foundation. Riley, Parker, and Maddy have found a lead on the nanite technology that Mac and Riley were exposed to. With a little help from Riley’s hacking group. They are able to find the person responsible for letting this new technology out into the wild.

The Acting

We get some great performances in this week’s episode and some great scenes from Ernie Hudson who guest stars as Bozer’s father Milton. In the episode. We learn that Milton was quite the role model for MacGyver and was the person that encouraged his scientific and forensic mind. This is illustrated when we see a few scenes of Milton mentoring a very young MacGyver (Reef Cali). And then again in the talk that Milton has with the older MacGyver at the water treatment plant.

Wendy Raquel Robinson also puts in a great performance as Bozer’s mother Lauretta who is not impressed with her son working for a Think Tank. Indeed, it is Bozer’s scenes with his mum that provide some of the comedy of this episode. In particular, the scene toward the end where she helps her son incapacitate one of the heavies that are after them.

Overall

This was a pretty fun episode, which doubled as somewhat of an origin story for MacGyver and Bozar’s lifelong friendship. We learn that when MacGyver’s mother died. That he went to live with the Bozer’s who treated him like a second son. We also learn that it was Bozer’s father who encouraged MacGyver to pursue his gift for being able to figure things out. A gift that was further encouraged by Bozer’s mum who entered Mac into every science fair.

I also enjoyed the investigation into the contaminated H2O supply and the connections that were made with the horrendous incident of contaminated water in Flint Michigan. Overall. A pretty solid episode, which gave us a bit of an origin story as well as building onto the current story arc.
