Synopsis: In part two of Year of the Tiger. In the midst of Lunar New Year festivities in Chinatown, Nicky tries to help her newly-discovered cousin Mia understand her new reality. Meanwhile, as Nicky and Evan follow a lead involving one of Russell Tan’s mercenaries, Henry keeps an eye on Mia at the community center.
The Story
Picking up from where last week left off. The Shen family do all they can to protect their cousin Mia while Nicky does a bit of digging to find out what Russell Tan is after. While Nicky does her thing Henry takes Mia to the community center where he learns that she knows a bit more about her family history than she has been letting on.
Meanwhile, in the Chinese Prison Zhilan gets a few uncomfortable home truths from the spirit of her older sister Pei-Ling Zhang. These spur Zhilan into fighting her way out of the prison when some of Tan’s mercenaries are sent to kill her.
Back in San Francisco Tan’s son Kerwin has woken up from his injuries and wants to know why his father went to so much trouble to save him. Meanwhile, Nicky gets a step closer to learning what Russell Tan’s plans are. But when Mia runs away it puts a bit of a spanner in the works.
The Acting
Year of the Tiger part two gives us a few solid performances from the cast. Olivia Liang does a solid job as Nicky and gets a fair bit to do. But we get a bit more focus on Russell Tan and his family as Kerwin (Ludi Lin) and seriously rattles his father when he mentions Zhilan.
However, it is the conversation between Zhilan (Yvonne Chapman) and Pei-Ling Zhang (Vanessa Kai) that intrigued me the most. As I am wondering what part Zhilan will play in this year’s series. Will she wind up working with Nicky and redeem herself or will she perhaps go it alone again? I mean its pretty obvious that she has unfinished business with Russell Tan either way.
Overall
Year of the Tiger part 2 gives us a few hints as to where this year’s story arc may go in that we know it has something to do with the big bell that Tan blew up part of a building to get at. But what significance does the bell have?
