Synopsis: WHO IS THE NEW IRON FIST?! After giving up his power to save the world, DANNY RAND believes he’s seen the last of the IRON FIST… …But when DEMONS begin to attack cities around the world, a MYSTERIOUS NEWCOMER in a FAMILIAR MASK appears, hands blazing with the CHI OF SHOU-LAO THE UNDYING! Who is this NEW IRON FIST? And does his power really come from the DRAGON OF K’UN-LUN… Or from something far more sinister?

The Story

Having given up his powers as the Iron Fist to save the world. Danny Rand has continued to use his Kung Fu to work as a crime fighter, but his current job of keeping him from a dinner date with his friend Luke Cage. But when a mysterious new Iron Fist shows up who is not properly able to channel the Chi of Shou-Loa. Danny’s curiosity gets the better of him as he wants to try and help the mysterious stranger. However, before they can be caught. The new Iron Fist makes a fast getaway back to K’un-Lun.

The Artwork

Michael YG does a solid job with the artwork for this opening issue and serves up plenty of beautifully drawn action beats. But perhaps my favorite page is a single splash where we see the new Iron Fist standing in front of the spirit of the dragon Shou-Lao. The introduction of Lin Lie as the new Iron Fist is handled really well. I really enjoyed the panels in which they tell us their story. I loved the page where we are shown the First Tomb of Chiyou.

Alyssa Wong does a nice job of introducing Lin Lie as the new Iron Fist and their first encounter with Danny Rand is memorable, to say the least. I really enjoyed how the story was split between updating us on Danny Rand and introducing us to Lin Lie and their additional job of trying to find the remaining shards of the sword of Chiyou before the demons do. I also enjoyed the time we spend in K’un Lun where Lin Lie is being helped by some friends. It will be fun to see Danny return to K’un Lun and find out how he can help the newbie.
