Synopsis: END OF AN ERA! Since day one, the Guardians of the Galaxy has been a rag tag group of mercenaries, survivors, and oddballs surviving by the skin of their teeth. Will it finally be their undoing? Liftoff in ONE…
The final battle between The Guardians and the ancient Greek Gods has begun and the Guardians are very much on the back foot. Zeus believes he has defeated his son Hercules and is in the process of giving Starlord and The Prince of Power a good thrashing. Indeed it looks very bad for the Guardians. But luckily Rocket Racoon and his uncanny ability to think outside the box offers them an opportunity to turn the tide.
Meanwhile, Moondragon is locked in a mental battle with The Goddess of Language.
Juann Cabal delivers some fabulous pages for this final issue of the story arc. It is indeed the End of an era, but its also the start of a new one. The imagery for the mental battle between Moondragon and The Goddess of Language was stunning. Especially when Moondragan unleashes the Dragon. But my favorite couple of pages are of Prince of Power as he locks minds with Zeus. We get a great double page of Prince of Power and Zeus as the battle for the final time. I loved the use of the runic symbols inside mandala-type circles as Zeus and Prince of Power confront each other.
Al Ewing brings this story to an end in epic style. I loved the dialogue between Starlord and Zeus as the two pretty much taunted each other. I also loved how Hercules was used to help the Guardians defeat the Gods. Cabal’s art throughout the run of this comic has been a high point. And saving this story to bring back Starlord was a brilliant move on the part of Al Ewing.
Overall. A brilliantly fun story and the end of an era for one incarnation of Guardians of The Galaxy and a brilliant introduction to what will likely come next.
