Synopsis: GUARDIANS VS. S.W.O.R.D.! In the wake of the Snarkwar and reeling from revelations of their own, the Guardians come face-to-face with the S.W.O.R.D. station crew……including their Quiet Council liaison—Magneto! And he’s not known for friendly chats…It’s the Human Rocket versus the Master of Magnetism—and it’s winner take all!
Having escaped from Ego before the planetary being turned into a massive egg in the last issue. Drax, Rocket, Gamora, and Mantis sit and wait. Clearly, the planet being once known as Ego is undergoing a transition. But what will come out of the egg once it hatches?
Elsewhere, Starlord and Nova use their journey to S.W.O.R.D. station to try and clear the air. However, they do not seem to be getting anywhere fast as Nova is still peeved at the fact that Starlord decided not to exact any justice on Dr. Doom, but instead brought the supervillain onto their side. However, things do not end there. Things get even more fraught when Nova learns that S.W.O.R.D’s secret Council Liason is none other than Magneto. To say that the shit hits the fan would be an understatement.
Juan Frigeri continues to produce some solid work for this issue. The big ding dong fight between Nova and Magneto, which takes place midway through is eye-popping and visceral. I also quite liked the sequence in which Starlord and Nova’s ship approaches S.W.O.R.D. station, which literally has plants and trees growing from it.
The best is saved for the last few pages. The tension on the faces of Drax, Mantis, and Hercules faces as DORMAMMU reveals himself is awesome.
Al Ewing continues to weave an interesting and fun story with Guardians of The Galaxy. The build-up to Nova and Magneto’s clash was well written and nicely executed. But it is the conversation they have with each other after the fight that makes for fun reading.
Overall. This is developing nicely. I look forward to the next issue.
