Synopsis: Everyone’s favorite hard-travelin’ heroes are back and brought to you through the iconic lens of World’s Finest! In the not-too-distant past, Oliver Queen and Hal Jordan find themselves at a crossroads…and only teaming up together once more will save them from the scope of the mysterious bounty hunter known in whispered tones throughout the underworld as Deathstroke the Terminator. Plus, writer Jeremy Adams returns to the world of the Flash to weave a twisted tale of Barry Allen on the road to cri-sis—it’s a World’s Finest adventure you cannot miss in this special, oversize one-shot spectacular!
The Story
While on a road trip packed with sightseeing and curiosity-driven detours, Green Lantern and Green Arrow find themselves in trouble when a squad car pulls them over. Hal, ever the space cop, chooses to cooperate with the officer—only to discover it’s none other than Deathstroke, sent by the League of Shadows on a mission to kill them.
A fierce battle erupts between the heroes and Deathstroke. Fortunately, Green Lantern and Green Arrow manage to outsmart him, tricking him into believing he’s succeeded in his mission. However, the victory comes at a cost—Hal Jordan is injured in the fight. With their car destroyed and no way to travel, Oliver Queen carries Hal across the desert in search of help and a phone.
Meanwhile, Deathstroke reports back to the League of Shadows. But without any proof of their deaths, the League is skeptical, suspecting that his mission might not be as complete as he claims.
The Artwork
Lucas Meyer delivers solid artwork in this book. I especially enjoyed the panels where the police cruiser is about to pull Hal Jordan and Ollie Queen over. The car, partially cloaked in shadow, adds a great sense of drama to the scene. Meyer also shines in the action beats, particularly in the moments where Green Arrow, Green Lantern, and The Flash leap into action.
Overall
Jeremy Adams delivers an enjoyable story that brings our two favorite hard-traveling heroes back together. Pitting them against Deathstroke was a real treat, and the short Flash story at the end of the book was a great bonus. Here’s hoping someone at DC makes the case for a new series of hard-traveling adventures with Hal Jordan and Green Arrow!
