Synopsis: On the precipice of Gotham’s reunification, Gordon and Bruce find themselves face to face with a newly transformed Eduardo, and discover the real mastermind behind the city’s current chaos. Meanwhile, a pregnant Barbara turns to Lee for help.
Review: Bane makes his entrance and we learn the true identity of Walker.
The Story
While preparing for reunification with the rest of America. James Gordon, Bruce Wayne, and General Wade are taken prisoner by Bane who is being controlled by Theresa Walker who turns out to be Nyssa Al Ghul who is out for revenge and has targeted Bruce Wayne, James Gordon, and Barbara Keen specifically.
Meanwhile, back in Gotham Barbara goes to Lee Thompkins for help with the baby, but has to give The Penguin and The Riddler the slip first.
The Acting
Jaime Murray is cast perfectly as the highly intelligent and manipulative Nyssa Al Ghul. The scene where she is trying to get Bruce to recognize who her father was is absolutely brilliant. It is tinged with the intensity you’d expect, but Murray adds a menacing feel to it. She is a bit like a cat toying with her food before the kill. BD Wong makes a welcome return as Hugo Strange and is given a physically beaten James Gordon to work on.
I also enjoyed the scenes involving Barbara and Lee Thompkins in which we saw the birth of Gordon’s child create a bit more of a bond between the two women who have always been at odds. Both Morena Baccarin and Erin Richards did a great job of selling this new development.
Overall
This was a pretty cool episode, which not only introduces Bane but introduces Nyssa Al Ghul who played brilliantly by Jaime Murray. Quite what kind of mayhem is likely to ensue in the weeks to come remains to be seen, but it will be a lot of fun to see.
