Hail

Synopsis: This month in All Hail the King. The Xiliens, looking for a countermeasure against Godzilla, have managed to find the resting place of another monster: the three-headed dragon King Ghidorah. Using their advanced technology, they awaken the great beast and set it on a worldwide rampage that eventually gets the attention of the King of the Monsters. Godzilla and King Ghidorah clash, as monsters do, and the results of that fight may not be good for anyone—human or Xilien!

The Story

Picking the story up from the previous issue. The Xiliens have used their technology to both awaken and take control of the three-headed dragon king Ghidorah and the stage is being set for a battle between Ghidorah and Godzilla. On his Vlog, Cedric sets the stage for the coming battle and speculates about the outcome, but doesn’t know that the Xiliens are monitoring his broadcasts. As Cedric meets with his fellow Godzilla friends. The first battle between the King of monsters and Ghidorah takes place and ends in a stalemate.

The Artwork

Dan Schoening gets to truly impress this month as he draws an epic battle of monsters. One of my favorite moments is when Cedric meets with his friends and we see their viewpoint of Ghidorah flying over the skyline as he prepares to face Godzilla. The fight itself is awesomely drawn and enhanced with some really nice colorwork from Luis Antonio Delgado. If this is just the appetizer. I can’t wait to see what the full meal of the monster battle will turn out like in the next two issues.

Overall

Godzilla: Monsters & Protectors—All Hail the King! is proving to be a really entertaining book. I really like Cedric as a central character as have met kids like him in real life that think they know it all when they feel they are the sole authority on something. Also, the monster drawings are awesome. The Godzilla character drawing reminds me of the old Hanna Barbara animated show.
