Protectors

Synopsis: In issue 2 of Monsters & Protectors Cedric and his friends are having terrible dreams thanks to the Xiliens, who are using psychic technology to probe the minds of every living creature on Earth. That’s the bad news. The worse news is it has pinpointed the den of King Ghidorah. The good news is the probe makes the Shobijin aware of danger on the horizon and allows them to warn our kaiju-connected heroes to be on the lookout—Cedric, Emily, Anderson…and Karen Higa, too!

The Story

Carrying on from the last issue. The Xiliens have managed to use their psychic mind probe to search the mind of every living creature on Earth. And unfortunately for Cedric and his friends. They seem to have found a monster that they think they can use to take down Godzilla. And that monster is the three-headed alien beast known as Ghidorah.

Thankfully there is a little hope as the two young girls that share a link with Mothra are able to reach out to Cedric and his friends from Infant Island and they warn Cedric of what is to come and inform him and his friends that they can use their connection to Godzilla to place an image in his mind.

The Artwork

Dan Schoening continues to use a nice Japanese art style for the characters and events that are in this book. I really liked the gradual reveal of Ghidorah over several panels. And I’m really looking forward to seeing what he will do when we get to see Godzilla and Ghidorah take on each other.

Overall

Erik Burnham continues to tease a little bit of the story out as opposed to revealing everything all at once. I loved the sequence where June and May were speaking psychically to Cedric and his friends from Infant Island and can imagine this story being a really cool animated cartoon series. I look forward to reading the next chapter when it drops next month.
